The inspiration for the name VeloChef
Posted by Gary Ares
VeloChef, this community's name, is a combination of 2 common words; "Velo" is the international term for bicycle. The word Chef we all know, and in this case inspired by Jason Fried, who is the founder of 37Signals.
During a presentation, and in his book, Jason suggests the best way to approach building a community is to be transparent. Something like how a chef will show people what they can make, explain all the ingredients, where to get them, how to properly mix them, and finally how put it all together. Some chefs will even show the proper ways to ingest the finished delicacy.
So, what does that mean? VeloChef will help you to understand what's important to know about a motorized bicycle, selecting the components or bike that meets your individual needs, and how to ride it. Just enough to be successful, and to enjoy the end result.
As time goes on, we'll look into not only bikes, but also variations on the theme; mopeds, scooters and recumbents to name a few. Additionally, we'll cover individual piece parts, like wheels for example, so you'll at least have a familiarity with all of the major pieces.
Here's the good news. I know a lot about this topic, want to share my knowledge, and have the ability to share it in a simple and understandable way. Oh, I also happen to love all aspects of cycling...let's call it my passion.
The simple reason for this effort is that I firmly believe people just need a little push, some may call it a little shot of confidence, to get the bike rolling. Here, you can learn, and ask questions, as well as give feedback as to your preferences. We want to hear from you.
If this topic is of interest to you, or you know someone who might benefit please come back, and spread the word. There is plenty more to know and share.
Thanks for coming.
